Tutorials & Maintenance
The maneuvers worth mastering, the maintenance the island demands, and the fixes I learned the hard way.
Four Maneuvers to Master
The Orbit
Lock a point of interest and fly a slow, smooth circle around it. Keep the subject dead center.
The Reveal
Start low behind cover — a dune, a palm line — then rise and tilt the camera down.
The Top-Down
Straight overhead, camera at 90°. Waves and reefs turn into abstract art.
The Dronie
The reverse selfie: pull back and climb. The classic vacation shot, done right.
Salt-Air Maintenance Protocol
The island is hard on hardware. Run this after every coastal session.

Monthly Maintenance Checklist
Fifteen minutes a month keeps the bird mission-ready. Print it, hang it by the gear shelf.

Troubleshooting Field Notes
Gimbal Shake
Almost always a warped prop. Swap it before you recalibrate anything.
Compass Errors
Reinforced concrete and rebar confuse compasses. Move 20 feet and recalibrate.
Battery Swelling
Retire it. Heat plus salt ages packs fast here — don't risk the airframe.
Signal Drops
Stay in line of sight, angle the antennas, and never duck behind ridgelines.
Camera Quick Card
Shutter = 2× Frame Rate
4K/30 means a 1/60 shutter — which means you need ND filters.
ND Filters
ND16 for bright beach days; ND32 for full midday sun.
D-Cinelike
The flat profile grades beautifully — a touch of contrast and you're done.
Golden Hour
Roughly 6:00–6:40 PM most of the year. Be airborne by 5:45.
