The Salt-Air Rinse Ritual

The Salt-Air Rinse Ritual

Coastal Puerto Rico eats drone hardware alive. This 5-minute post-flight ritual has kept my fleet flying for years.

Why the island is hard on drones

Salt crystals ride the trade winds and settle inside motor bells, gimbal pivots, and battery contacts. Corrosion starts in days, not months.

The ritual

Power down and pull the battery immediately

Wipe the airframe with a cloth dampened in fresh water — never salt water

Spin each motor by hand and listen for grit

Inspect props for stress whitening near the hubs

Once a month

Open the shell if your model allows it and check for white salt crust on the board. A soft brush and 90% isopropyl handles it.

The payoff

My oldest Mini has 400+ coastal flights. The ritual is why.
